FAQ · Finish
White and Black — does color change the opening size?
No. Size and Color are selected independently. A 10×4 White and a 10×4 Black share the same opening size; only the finish differs.

Quick Answer
Measure first, pick the catalog size, then choose White or Black. Do not switch sizes just to “get a color.” If that Size+Color is Pending, it is not buyable on this site.
Independent Attributes
Catalog rows are Size+Color pairs. Changing White to Black on a 10×4 opening does not enlarge or shrink the opening — the size stays 10×4; only the finish changes. In the public catalog, both 10×4 White and 10×4 Black are Confirmed Size+Color combinations (each with its own mapped Amazon path). The same size-first rule applies to every other catalog size family.
Same-Size Comparison
| Attribute | 10×4 White | 10×4 Black |
|---|---|---|
| Opening size family | 10×4 | 10×4 |
| Finish | White | Black |
| Public status (these examples) | Confirmed | Confirmed |
| Buy path on this site | BUY ON AMAZON | BUY ON AMAZON |
Other sizes follow the same logic. Always confirm the variation you are viewing on Vent Covers. We do not claim every Size+Color in every family is Confirmed — only mapped rows show the Amazon CTA.
Common Shopping Errors
- Picking a finish photo first, then forcing a size that does not match the opening.
- Assuming Black “looks larger” in photos — finish is not a size change.
- Treating a Pending finish option as buyable.
How to Shop It
- Measure the opening (measure FAQ).
- Lock Size via size FAQ / catalog.
- Choose finish last (Choose Size and Color Independently).
- If the pair is Pending, see Amazon Link Pending.
Quick Scenario
You measured ~10 × 4 and prefer Black trim. Lock 10×4 first on the catalog, then select Black on that same size. If 10×4 Black were Pending (it is Confirmed in the example pair above), you would not treat Pending as buyable — you would choose another Confirmed finish/size path or inquire.
Photos and Finish
Confirmed listings show photography for that Size+Color. A White photo is not a Black listing. The pair above uses verified 10×4 White and 10×4 Black catalog assets so you can see finish change without size change. Confirm both attributes on the product page before BUY ON AMAZON.
